Christina moved into Covent Garden in 1962 and became politicised (in a bi-partisan sense) when the area was proposed for demolition – a time when most of the founder trustees met and some appeared at the 1971 Public Inquiry. Her shops and other ventures – Neal Street East, the Tea House and Smith’s Galleries – were famous throughout London. Christina was a member of the Covent Garden Forum together with David Bieda and Janet Cole-Brooman and was a founder trustee of the Seven Dials Trust and a founder member of the Covent Garden Community Association. She was also a trustee of the Covent Garden Area Trust.

  Christina Smith OBITUARY - The Times (published on 22 March 2022)

Christina was on the Council of the Architectural Association and the Development Board of the Donmar Theatre. She was a long-standing director of the Ambassadors Theatre Group and sponsored various organisations. As the proprietor of Smith’s Restaurant, Christina sponsored many events for the Trust, including the reception for HM Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands and Prince Claus on the unveiling of the Sundial Pillar.
